One Step at a Time: Finding Strength to Face Life’s Challenges
Sometimes, when dealing with a difficult situation, it seems like I am sitting at the table with an elephant on my plate. I have to ask myself: How can I eat this elephant?
The same way I climbed a mountain or ran up a steep hill.
My mother taught me this truth years ago. The bite I am about to take, the piton I am reaching for, the pace I am about to take is just as important as the first bite, piton, or pace. It is just as important as the last bite, piton or pace.
Why worry about problems that may not come to pass?
Why worry about weakness if I have enough strength to take one bite, reach for one piton, or take the next pace?
I cope by moving forward. I eat the elephant one bite at a time. I climb the mountain one piton at a time. I reach the top of the hill one pace at a time.
