Grieving the loss Week 124 - The Right To My Feelings
- Apr 9
- 1 min read
After a loss, mourners often face not only grief but also others’ expectations and advice.
To cope, many create a personal "bill of rights" that includes the right to a unique
experience, personal feelings, and supportive connections. This is the second of a
three-week series: The Rights of the Mourner.
I have the right to feel what I am feeling in the moment, regardless of how they
shift from moment to moment.
I have the right to feel a multitude of emotions or not.
I have the right to feel angry without apology or explanation.
I have the right to have fun or experience joy.
I have the right to feel sad, discouraged, or afraid,
I have the right to feel upset.
I have the right to experience sudden bursts of grief
I have the right to cry or not cry in any given moment or situation.
