End of the Journey Week 133: Life Lessons from Grandma

One of the joys of growing old is watching our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and thrive. I am blessed to have four children, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A few weeks ago, I wrote this poem to share the life lessons I want to teach them.
I’ve walked the path you’ve yet to walk
Learned lessons old and new.
The wisdom that I’ve learned in life
I’m blessed to share with you.
Hold fast to your convictions,
Let truth be your steady light.
Stand firm in what you know is good,
And choose the path that’s right.
Let kindness spread like sunshine
And warm the hearts you meet.
Be gentle with the hurting,
And make your grace their seat.
Speak your heart with gentleness,
Let honesty be kind,
For feelings shared respectfully
Bring peace of heart and mind.
Walk softly when you’re angry
Despite your wounded pride.
Listen to an opponent’s views.
Try to see their side.
Walk softly when you've been hurt
Try not to take offense
I’ve found that an open heart
Is my best defense.
